Course Details

Presented by the Mindful Care Training and the American Public Health Association (APHA).

This course is designed to educate and impact the quality of care physicians and nurses provide to vulnerable populations, specifically women and children victims of domestic violence.

This is the program series designed exclusively for medical professionals, created by medical professionals, public health professionals, and trained domestic violence experts.

After participating in this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify the role health care professionals play in ending the cycle of violence for victims.
  • Discuss effective mindful care strategies for vulnerable patients who are victims of domestic violence.
  • Define compassion care.
  • Identify ways to advocate for underserved and marginalized women and children.
  • Develop knowledge-building tools to create policies to address domestic violence.
  • Apply quality, practical techniques to effectively enhance relationships with vulnerable patients.
  • Apply practical communication tools to help build meaningful connections.
  • Define why compassionate care is needed for all victims of violence.
  • Demonstrate practical mindful self-care strategies.
  • Identify special populations that may require a higher level of care.
  • Describe how to care for vulnerable populations experiencing domestic violence.
  • Discuss the importance of self-care for medical providers who care for vulnerable populations.
  • Apply self-care strategies that will directly impact providers self -awareness and effectiveness in patient care

Medicine (CME) Accreditation Statement

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of the American Public Health Association (APHA) and the Speranza Human Compassion Project. The APHA is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Designation Statement: The APHA designates this enduring educational activity for a maximum of .20 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit (s)™.

Nursing (CNE) Accreditation Statement

This continuing nursing education activity was approved by APHA/PHN, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Health Education (CHES) Statement

Sponsored by the American Public Health Association (APHA), a designated approver of continuing education contact hours (CECH) in health education by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. This program is designated for Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES®) to receive up to .5 total Category I contact education contact hours. Maximum advanced-level continuing education contact hours available are 20 per person.

How to Obtain CE Credit

Participants must complete one module and pass the post-test in order to earn credit hours and obtain a CE certificate.

A link to the online evaluation is available on the module host site with instructions for access to the CE credit system which can be found on the Course Page Closing Letter.

The final online evaluations must be submitted within 90-days from when the course was taken, to receive continuing education credit for this activity.
